12th South Grocery Volunteer

This opportunity mainly involves assisting our customers at checkout when we are open for shopping. Volunteer roles will be assigned at the start of your shift, and those roles include:

• Bagger - bag groceries in a timely and efficient manner; once their checkout is complete, you will assist them outside with their groceries
• Register - select the customer's profile (profile name and number will be on their laminated shopping guide, which they should turn in to you when they arrive at checkout); scan their items or ring in non-scannable items on our iPad checkout system. Complete their transaction to finish checking them out and ask if they'd like a receipt; the register volunteer works directly with the "counter" volunteer
• Counter - help unload the customer's shopping cart and ensure customers are not over specified item limits when checking out (you will need to refer to our volunteer “cheat sheet” provided at each checkout station to know the various item limits); works directly with the "register" volunteer
• Door greeter - greet customers as they enter The Store and communicate to our check-in desk how many carts are available (if there are customers waiting to shop); assist customers with their bagged groceries as they exit (in collaboration with the "bagger" volunteers); keep carts organized as they are returned and wipe down cart handles with disinfectant spray
• Other - while you'll mainly be helping at check-out, we may request help with other miscellaneous tasks such as assisting customers while they shop, stocking shelves and produce as needed, breaking down boxes, taking out the trash/recycling, maintaining store cleanliness, etc.

Once you've successfully signed up, you will receive a confirmation email with information about parking, proper attire, an orientation slide presentation, and other necessary information you'll need before arriving. At the start of the shift, you will have an orientation and brief training on our checkout system, so it is important to arrive on time.
